- The Samarana Idea
Functional art for
modern homes.
We believe every home should hold at least one object that carries a story. Not a souvenir. Not a reproduction. A real thing, made by real hands, built to outlast the trends around it.
- What We Curate
Objects with intention.
Samarana curates contemporary craft objects rooted in Indian heritage — pieces that function beautifully in modern homes without pretending to be anything other than what they are: made by hand, shaped by tradition, and designed to be used every day.
- How We Source
From cluster to doorstep.
We travel to India’s craft clusters to find artisans whose work meets our standard — not just of quality, but of craft integrity. We work with makers who have dedicated their lives to a particular technique, in a particular region.
-
Discover & Select
We visit artisan clusters and identify makers whose craft is exceptional and whose process is authentic. -
Co-create & Commission
We work with artisans to create pieces that honour their craft tradition while fitting modern homes. -
Small batches only
Each object is made in a limited run — never scaled to the point where craft becomes factory. -
Fair pay, always
Artisans are paid fairly for their time and skill. We believe the price of a handmade object should reflect the life behind it.
- Founder's Note
"I started Samarana because I kept finding objects that moved me — and had no way to bring them home with me. Not because they weren't for sale, but because they were sold in contexts that didn't honour what they were."
Samarana exists to give extraordinary handmade objects the presentation they deserve — and to make it easy for people who care about craft to find them. We are not a marketplace. We are curators.
Every piece you find here has been held, studied, and chosen with care. That will never change.
